Ready
Lowcountry is a tri- county effort to localize the Department of
Homeland Security’s (DHS) National Ready Campaign.
Ready Lowcountry will
help individuals, families, businesses and children in the community prepare for
all types of emergencies and to take care of themselves in the event of a
disaster by encouraging everyone to just take these steps:
1. Get a kit of emergency supplies
2. Make a plan of what you will do
3. Be informed about what might happen
4. Get involved in preparing your community
Having a plan and the tools in place to make
it on your own for a period of time can be crucial!

New Training
Opportunities Offered
Charleston County
TEEN CERT
The Charleston County Teen
CERT program is designed to teach students how to identify the
types of disasters and hazards most likely to affect their
homes, schools and communities. Young adults ages 13-18 are
trained to assist in the event of an emergency and or natural
disaster, and to be prepared to assist their families and
emergency services. Our program offers continued refresher
training, along with updated information to keep members
current. The goal of Teen CERT is to better prepare the
community at an earlier age and offer positive extracurricular
activities to the youth of Charleston County.

Business CERT (B-CERT)
The CERT basic training
for businesses course can be a valuable step in a company’s
Continuity of Business (COB) planning. The course is delivered
by FEMA or State Certified Instructors and based on the 9
modules covered in the national CERT curriculum. The course may
be structured to meet your business needs. The cost per person
for the class varies depending on program and materials.
Costs typically include; training manuals, individual safety
equipment (CERT hard hat, vest, gloves, goggles, and dust mask),
handouts and occasional team cache starter kits.
This class is usually open
to all employees who wish to participate or are assigned to your
business emergency response team. During each session
participants are required to bring safety equipment that will be
issued in the second module (gloves, goggles, mask, helmet and
vest). Each student will be given necessary disaster supplies
(bandages, dressings, etc.) to be used during the course.
Participants are encouraged to build a disaster response kit of
items that they will need during a disaster at work.
This program should be
incorporated within a company’s Continuity of Business (COB)
Plan. For more information contact:
