This year CERT personnel will be organized as a group under the direction and guidance of CERT personnel.

We will be providing roving safety patrols in the festival area.

Four (4) two person teams have been requested to circulate through-out the festival area each morning and afternoon of the festival.

The morning schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the afternoon schedule will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.

If you are interested please email Jim Tarter at: jtarter@charlestoncounty.org by Friday, March 19.

Please indicate the day and shift (morning or afternoon) you are available.

If you can not fill an entire shift indicate the times you are available.

Information on equipment needs and sign in location will follow.

If you have any question please feel free to contact Jim Tarter at 202-7405.

Please take advantage of the events and training to help you take these steps to get prepared:

1.   Get a kit of emergency supplies

2.   Make a plan of what you will do

3.   Be informed about what might happen

4.   Get involved in preparing your community

Having a plan and the tools in place to make it on your own for a period of time can be crucial!

Ready Lowcountry partners will continue to organize events and training throughout the year.

Be sure to check the schedule often as information is updated as soon as it becomes available.

ALSO, download the following manual corrections (these are all in PDF format):

All five items on this page: ADDITIONS

SUPPLEMENTS

You MUST do this ASAP so as to have time to complete the reading assignment prior to the first class session.

ANY student showing up without a manual at the first class session will NOT be allowed to continue with the class.

There will be a reading assignment for each class session. Prior to the first class, you MUST READ (not just skim through) Chapters 1-5.

ALSO - Review ALL of the questions in the Blue Box in each section.

This is an INTENSIVE course. If you feel that you cannot attend ALL sessions, on-time and complete each reading assignment, then this class is not for you!

It is vital that you arrive on-time for each session. We will not backtrack for any late arrivals. Please try to arrive a little early for the first session.

You will be tested at the fifth class session and will need to answer 26 questions correctly, from a test consisting of 35 questions drawn from a pool of 392 questions. All answers will be multiple choice. You DO NOT need to know Morse Code to qualify for an Amateur Radio license.

Students will be given relevant handouts at each session and must bring pen(s) and/or pencil(s) for note taking.

There are several on-line sites for taking practice exams. This is a good way to become more familiar with the material at your leisure:

KBØMGA

The fee, payable at the time of the testing session, is $12.00. Please have correct change!

If you pass the Technician Class exam, you will be given the opportunity to take the General Class exam, at no additional charge. However, if you do not pass the Technician Class exam, you may be, at the discretion of the testing team, permitted to retake the test with the payment of an additional $12.00 testing fee.

Students not passing the Technician Class exam on 4 May, will be offered a special tutoring session on 11 May 2010 at the class site. This is to better prepare students to retake the exam on 19 May, in Goose Creek, SC.
