You are the most important part of our organization!

 

We are asking you to please take a few minutes to come out and vote!

 If you are attending the Annual Meeting and Elections only there is no charge!

 

Note: Let the gate know you are with Lowcountry CERT and entrance to the park is Free.

 

The plan is to also have a Lowcountry Oyster Roast and Cookout with fun games for the Family and Members.

 

Registration;

 

 If you are planning to attend the Annual Meeting, Elections there is NO CHARGE.

If you plan on attending the Family Event we are asking for $20 per family in advance, $30 at the door. The donation will help cover the cost of Location Rental, Food and Beverage and the Overall Event.

Elections:

 

The positions up for election this year are LCERT Board Chair and LCERT Board Secretary.

 

We have one nomination for board Chair:

 

 Tom Crosby

 

Tom helped Establish Lowcountry CERT in 2007, and was elected as Chairman in February 2008.

Tom has acted as President of Q.H.H.O.A. for the past 18-years, owner of TAC Services for the past 16 years and has been a licensed real estate agent in South Carolina since 2003.  He has received several awards for his services both in the corporate and consumer areas, and in 2006, Tom was named the Liaison for East Cooper CERT to coordinate emergency response east of the Cooper River.

 

We now have TWO nominations for Secretary:

 

Michele Guilford  

 

Michele was elected as Secretary in February, 2009.


Michele has been with CERT since 2005 she previously served as Lowcountry CERT’s Treasurer and Publicity Committee Chair. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Marketing, from Avila University. Michele has worked in various media outlets for eight years. In addition to Lowcountry CERT, Michele has been a member of the Charleston Jaycees for more than three years and has served as the Vice President of both Marketing and Management for the organization. At home she is Mommy to three rambunctious cats and a wannabe home renovator. Michele was elected by the membership as Lowcountry CERT's first Treasurer in 2007.

 

Barbara Eggers-Parker

 

Barbara completed the CERT and DART Programs in 2007 and is presently the chair of the LCERT Membership Committee and a member of the Continuing Education Committee.

 

She lives in West Ashley with her husband Ron and three spoiled cats. She volunteers at the Charleston Animal Society and is always involved in animal rescue efforts. Barbara is an emeritus professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and the American Chemical Society. She recently retired from Trident Technical College after serving as Director of Health, Human Services, Safety and Industrial Training and Apprenticeships.  She spent 17 years in higher education after retiring from Digital Equipment Corporation in Boston. She served as Engineering Manager for semiconductor packaging and printed wiring board manufacturing. She acted as project manager implementing technologies across the globe.

 

She holds a BS in Chemistry and Biology (Suffolk University), an MS in Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry (U. of New Hampshire) and a Certificate in Leadership in Higher Education from the U. of S.C.

Upcoming Events:

SC AHIMT Conference – North Charleston Convention Center - Jan. 26-28

 

LCERT HELP REQUEST – The Lowcountry Incident Management Team (IMT) would like to request assistance from LCERT so that the IMT members can take advantage of the programs being offered at the Conference. We would also like to invite LCERT to set up a display table to showcase their capabilities to the conference attendees.  We need your help, but once set-up and tasks are completed you are more then welcome to sit in on any presentations or break-outs.  Speakers include; Steve Foley, Deputy Director of the National Fire Admin; George Custer, IC for the National Type 1 NIMO IMT Based out of Atlanta Ga.; Roger Thompson, Deputy Director of Cal Fire and IC for Cal Type 1 IMT; as well as Sled and SCEMD speakers.  There will also be vendors and equipment displays in the break area for you to explore! In Calif., CERT teams are used extensively on large incidents, this is your chance to teach the IMT’s about CERT!

Need two Volunteers to help with late registration (8:00 to 9:30) will be working with Christine Cagle, Planning Section Chief for Lowcountry IMT.

 

Need four volunteers - Help with setting up cookie and drinks for breaks – Will be working with Asst. Chief Austin from Summerville FD.

 

Need two Volunteers to help Convention Center Staff.

Please take advantage of the events and training to help you take these steps to get prepared:

4.   Get involved in preparing your community

Having a plan and the tools in place to make it on your own for a period of time can be crucial!

Ready Lowcountry partners will continue to organize events and training throughout the year.

Adventist Community Services Disaster Response Training

The following classes will be taught:

  • Introduction to Disasters – How to prepare yourself, your family, and your church to face disasters.
  • Donations Operations – An overview of everything Adventists do during a disaster with emphasis on distribution.
    • Required to obtain ACSDR photo ID
  • Warehouse Operations – Detailed instruction preparing individuals to take management positions in donated goods warehouse operations.
    • Forklift operator’s class at a date to be arranged

Amateur Radio Licensing Class
 

Low Country CERT, Charleston County EMD,

 

Trident Amateur Radio Club (TARC) and its W4VEC Test Team are sponsoring an Amateur Radio Licensing Class for an FCC, Technician Class License.

 

Dates:       Tuesdays, 9 March through 6 April 2010

  • There will be a reading assignment for each class session.
     

  • This is an INTENSIVE course.  If you feel that you cannot attend ALL sessions, on-time and complete each reading assignment, then this class is not for you,
     

  • You will be tested at the fifth class session and will need to answer 26 questions correctly, from a test consisting of 35 questions drawn from a pool of 392 questions.  All answers will be multiple choice.  You DO NOT need to know Morse Code to qualify for an Amateur Radio license.
     

  • There will be a fee of $12.00 for the testing session payable
    at that time.
